Wait A Pea Pickin’ Minute

image Where did the term pea pickin’ minute come from?  If pea picking is supposed to be quick then I have lots of improvement to make.  I picked the last of my peas on Saturday and shelled about 1/5 of the harvest.

That is labor intensive work, Jack. I took the haul up to the patio and started in.  By the time I was sick of shelling, I felt just like Idella from Driving Miss Daisy.  I have pounds and pounds to go.

  1. I shelled 7lbs. on Saturday while watching 'Father of the Bride II'. I finished the movie before the peas and we have at least that many more still on the vines....sigh.

ps. good thing we LOVE peas :)

  2. I don't envy you. I remember when my mom made me shell peas....not my most favorite thing to do, but they're sooooo good.

  3. What I want to know is, what's faster? A pea pickin' minute or a cotton pickin' minute?

  4. If it's by hand then I choose pea picking as the fastest.

  5. With 20 rows of corn and 20 rows of peas/beans... I am definitely in need of a pea sheller! I can remember spending the summer helping my mother and grandmother shell peas. It seemed like fun at the time, but then again, we took as many breaks as we wanted! :) Melissa
