Moonflower

DSC_2221_6942There are sunflowers in the garden this summer.  They have thrived in the summer sun and are now heavy with heads full of seeds.  Moonflowers were planted too.  The vines are growing from a hanging basket and in the ground.  All are growing skyward.  When are they going to bloom?DSC_2232_6952I’ve never grown them before; but it looks like it could be any night now.  Stay tuned.  Now go sing Moonshadow to yourself just like me.

I have never grown these so I'm excited to see them open up!

You are way ahead of me! I grow them every year but don't usually see blooms until sometime in Sept. All I have is foliage, no blooms. I planted mine from seeds the 1st part of May. Looking forward to seeing your blooms!

Should be interesting to see. I've never grown them because they do take so long to bloom-and time is something in very short supply up here.

I grew this last year and I think I hyped myself up for them more than I should have. Like others mentioned, my blooms came very late in the season. Most of the year, they just looked like a viney mess of weeds (could have been planters error! in where I planted them) and when they did bloom, they were not as big as I expected them to be.

The buds just appeared on mine within the last week or so. I always try to put them near a patio or walkway because the fragrance is divine, but because they are late in the season I am thinking I should pair them with another vine on a trellis next year.
