We have a spotlight on it and the other evening we were sitting on the pool deck. I looked up and noticed butterflies making shadows in the spot light, they were very interested in the "flower", and as it's early in the season seeing so many in one place was a pleasant surprise. I have some great photos, and am hoping to get some night shots with butterflies when the next one opens. What an interesting way to learn about a new (to us at least)plant!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5073185635856849089.post-53919102514231805252014-05-09T14:58:49.071-07:002014-05-09T14:58:49.071-07:00Just did a bunch of research and found out it take...Just did a bunch of research and found out it takes a year to ripen and tastes like a tropical fruit salad. Mine grows out in the open, next to the pool in FL, and has about 10 of these pods, but is only about 4" tall, leaning slightly this is our first spring here, and BOY, were we surprised at what we found in the garden!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5073185635856849089.post-8493471580698630262012-05-27T10:18:49.975-07:002012-05-27T10:18:49.975-07:00Farmer MacGregor and I think you got your exotics ...Farmer MacGregor and I think you got your exotics mixed up with your erotics!!!! :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5073185635856849089.post-13781424603621877332012-05-27T03:53:35.020-07:002012-05-27T03:53:35.020-07:00Oh, MY!Oh, MY!daisy ghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06129079277073067462noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5073185635856849089.post-82369545789235820712012-05-23T13:01:13.329-07:002012-05-23T13:01:13.329-07:00very titillating...I mean stimulating...I mean...I...very titillating...I mean stimulating...I mean...I mean...interesting!!! It swells into an aromatic fruit that looks a little like a green corn cob. It is said to taste like a combination of banana, pineapple and mango."

Since last year's flower didn't result in a ripe fruit this year, I can only guess that Bakersfield lacks the necessary pollinator or doesn't stay warm enough for the entire time it takes for growth and ripening,HelenBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08530168702196499410noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5073185635856849089.post-1027451911284014792012-05-20T04:12:18.222-07:002012-05-20T04:12:18.222-07:00Never heard of it!
