Corn Dog

DSC_2257_6929

Is eating corn bad for dogs?  Not the cobs…the plant.  Ajax enjoys shredding the leaves.  I don’t think he actually eats the leaves.  He shreds them.

Every dog I’ve ever had enjoys popcorn.  Not the microwave junk.  The real deal.  Ajax is no exception.  I don’t know why he’s attracted to the corn; but he is.

Is that bad for the dog?  It can’t be good for the corn.

I'm not sure if the foliage contains any toxins. You might call your vet. One of our dogs would eat figs and the fig leaves too. Tried to keep him away, but never noticed any symptons.

Judging from the flood of letters I got from vets and breeders after I posted a picture of little Oscar with a corn cob, what's dangerous is the indigestible core of the cob. Dogs can chew it up into small enough pieces to swallow, but not small enough to pass through the intestine. The cobs themselves cause the blockage. I don't believe there is anything intrinsically dangerous about the leaves and kernels.

Do they have clinics for dogs addicted to corn leaves?
:D
You have to wonder what it is that makes them do that!

Ajax is one cute dog! Our dogs love popcorn. Our little dog would jump in the bowl if we let him.

I have no idea, but Ajax is so cute!

I did a quick search on the topic and was amazed to be sent to a forum for Mastiffs with the same habit. This must not be that unusual.

My dog loves peanuts.

WHen I"m in the garden I'll throw Lou, our dog, a whole ear of corn. He decimates it and eats just about everything. His poop looks pretty funny for a few days after!

I just read what Lisa Paul said... I should probably be a little more cautious...but Lou chomps it all down into just about nothing...
