The last of the peas have been pulled out in preparation for the summer plants to get started. The stakes were pulled. The dried out plants were pulled. And the garden wagon was pulled up to be filled with the vines to continue drying.
I’m waiting for the remaining pods to dry out so I can store them for split pea soup. I sure hope that’s how it’s done. My mother told me that that is how my Granny did it; so I’m giving it a shot.
This bed still has carrots, beets, and garlic growing. I think the peppers will grow here for the summer. I have Serranos and Black Hungarians waiting in the wings. Last summer there were pumpkins, onions, beets, and carrots.

From what I've read, allowing peas (or beans) to dry on the plant is exactly how to preserve them for dry peas/beans. We'll be giving that a try this season, too. Your strawberries (in the post below) look so good! I'm glad to see you're garden doing so well. Have a wonderful weekend!!! :) Melissa
Is that lobelia you have planted around your raised beds? Whatever it is it is beautiful and really looks wonderful there.

That pea pod looks about like my sister right now... 7 months pregnant and ready to pop! :)
Ha! I'm always amazed at the difference in our climates. (I'm in Alexandria VA.) I know I should have planted peas a couple of weeks ago but the fact that yours are already done and being pulled out to be replaced by summer plants is mind-boggling!! Well I am glad it isi planting time again anyway. Another year of learning for me. :)
*Siren - Hot and dry describes zone 9. When other rejoice at the fact summer is coming, I grumble and complain and seek solice in the fact that fall is just much closer.
