Grape Help Request

DSC_1618_4284 Here’s my little, baby grapes on my two year old Red Flame grapevine.  What are the little brushy white things?  Need a closer look?DSC_1617_4283 What are these little flowery things?  My search for information continues.

You pretty much answered your own question. You don't have "baby grapes" yet. You have grape flowers. With time, and proper fertilization, you'll have grapes.

Maybelline, I'm pretty sure those are the blossoms that will become grapes as they grow. It appears they are just beginning their transformation. Looks like you'll have a bountiful harvest! How wonderful! I appreciate the encouragement you give me. It means so much. Have a blessed weekend. : ) Melissa

Those are the sex organs of the vines (i.e. flowers). Let the bees at them, and soon you'll have grapes. By the way, grapes can swing both ways -- be either male or female. But they can't pollinate themselves. You have to have a minimum of two separate vines to get grapes.

The little green berry bits came 1st followed by the little flowery things. I have one vine and it produced grapes last year. Maybe this is a freak vine.

I'm so freaking jealous. I planted EIGHT tablegrape vines this bare root season. EIGHT! All of them -- every single last one -- failed. So did the thornless blackberry and boysenberry vines. The only thing that made it was the pluot tree. I learned a terrible lesson: never order from a nursery outside of your home area. EVER

Buy local with most all things Bill.
There is an exception...I would like to encourage you and others to make as many purchases from Arizona as possible. I am. I'm also boycotting SF, LA, & Austin.

I'll check out your blog to learn more about your gardening failures and successes.

Don't be jealous. Be inspired. Now get after it.

I have just one Red Flame Vine and it is pumping out the grapes this year. I've had to go through and thin to two clusters per cane. It's done much better since I moved it to a location with more sun. Before I moved it I never got any grapes, even after 6 years. I took a cutting and moved it over about 50 ft and what a difference! 2 clusters the first year and now,the second year it is loaded! Location, location, location!
